Floor going in (Thanks, BOSA!)

Look! The floor going in!

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew - aka 'BOSA' - donated funds for the floor. These are the guys who meet for breakfast on Saturday mornings to shoot the breeze and generally offer support to each other - and a couple of times every year, they get together to (drink beer and) smoke turkeys and hams for us to order on holidays. They are handy folks to have around.

The little white things in between the pieces are spacers to keep them even and save space for the grout. Even though it looks like wood, these are actually tiles. For some reason, I didn't realize this until I bumped a loose one - and it went CLANK!

Here is the last bit, drying out. The darker part is drying.
The already-dry part has the spacers removed

Kitchen cabinets and counters

Kitchen cabinets - before countertops:

Counter under the pass-through window between the kitchen and the nave; cabinets and drawers are in, waiting for their faces to be attached...

Looking into the kitchen from the nave.
And if you look carefully, you can see that a counter is going in over the cabinets on the other side of the room

During...

Right after an opening, prayer, part of the crew set to work pulling up the carpet. "Team Mary Magdalen" of Deanna and Tracie met Fr. Vernon and Lou in the middle prying off the metal strip - almost like building a railroad...

We cut strips of carpet, rolled them up, then the carpet padding underneath and tossed it all in a trailer outside:

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, it's snowing...

or maybe that's Bill sawing through drywall.

Rick does not need no stinkin' tools ... he'll tear the wall apart with his hands!

Then, it was time to start taking the stage out.
With all that dust, it's a good thing Wayne was wearing a mask.

Okay, everybody take a break...

And now - back to work!

Fr. Vernon offers a blessing in the sacristy.

More photos in the next post!

Before...

Hooray! We have a building permit - and look at that line for Contractor - thanks, Bill!

Below are some photos from "before" Demo Day really got into full swing...

The picture below is taken from the middle of the room, looking toward the front door. The door on the right goes into a small entryway and out to the parking lot. The door on the left goes into what was a small classroom, and that entire wall would have to come down, along with the little sound booth in the middle of the photo.

This photo is taken looking toward the back door, and the small room on the left is the bathroom. All the carpet and stage would have to go.

The crew starts to arrive...
And after a prayer, folks got right to work. Check out the "During..." photos!

Demolition Day video

Here are some more photos Katie took, also, posted on the Diocesan Flickr page

Demo Day

A note from Bill -

"Thank you to everyone who participated in making Demo Day a success
We accomplished everything that we hoped for demolition that day."

We will post pictures soon!

Where is the new place?

St. Stephen's new home will be in the Village Plaza at the corner of Hurstview and Harwood.

This is going to be our front door:

Soon we can put up our own sign - and it can stay there...
The guys won't have to put it up and and take it down again every week!
